1950s and 1960s streets, plus a 2010s wave
The Census Bureau's American Community Survey (2020–2024) counts about 7,090 housing units in Cayce. The 1960s were the biggest building decade, with about 1,900 homes, and about 1,150 more went up in the 2010s. About 71 percent are detached single-family houses and about 61 percent are owner-occupied.
Older Cayce houses tend to be one-story brick or frame ranches with simple roofs. The gutter work there is mostly replacement and fascia repair. Newer Cayce houses have more complex roofs with valleys, and usually need more outlets than the builder installed.

Knox Abbott Drive, State Street and the Congaree
Knox Abbott Drive and State Street are the old center of Cayce, and the Riverwalk follows the Congaree River along its eastern edge. Lots near the river are low and flat. On flat lots, water from a downspout has nowhere to go and can pool against the foundation, so extensions and buried lines matter more here than on hillier streets.

When a lot is flat, we put downspouts where the water can be carried farthest: toward the street, the front lawn or a low spot in the back yard. A buried line to a pop-up emitter can work on a flat lot if the emitter sits even slightly lower than the downspout.
Typical Cayce jobs
- Replacing worn gutters on 1950s and 1960s ranches with seamless aluminum.
- Adding gutters to older houses that never had them.
- More outlets and larger downspouts on 2010s homes.
- Downspout extensions and buried lines on flat, low lots near the river.
